Global Leaders Conference on Sustainable Development concludes its work successfully, with the attendance of international experts

Dubai, UAE – The Global Leaders Conference on Sustainable Development, hosted by Edufam International Academy on 14th September 2024, was a resounding success. Held at Al Bustan, DubaiThe conference brought together global thought leaders, policymakers, business executives, and sustainability experts to discuss innovative strategies for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event opened with an inspiring welcome from **Dr. Haleema Sadia**, Director of Edufam International Academy. Dr. Sadia, with her extensive experience in leadership and education, emphasized the critical role of education and corporate leadership in fostering sustainable development. She highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability into education and business models.

The Keynote Speech was delivered by Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Founder of the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG). She highlighted the initiatives taken   for Zero Waste practices across various sectors in the UAE.   She also addressed the urgency of adopting eco-friendly practices and the role of community leadership in sustainability efforts. She also called for more robust individual  involvement in environmental preservation, avoiding wastes, underscoring the need for collaborative action to tackle global environmental challenges.

The event  featured a Presidential Address by Sayed Anwar Bari, Board of Directors at Al Amana Private School, Sharjah. He shared his insights on how educational institutions can play a pivotal role in driving the global sustainability agenda by empowering future leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to address environmental challenges.

Among the highlights of the day were  impactful panel discussions. The first panel, Leadership Strategies for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), featured notable speakers such as Ayman Al Awadhi (The Corporate Group), Noreen McGuckin (Safa British School), and Dr. Racquel Warner (RAE Consultants). The panelists discussed the importance of innovative leadership in achieving the SDGs and explored how global leaders can align their strategies with these goals to drive progress across various sectors.

A Virtual Panel Discussion on “EDUSUSTAIN: Shaping Tomorrow Through Learning Today” followed, focusing on how education can be a driving force for sustainability. Panelists such as Dr. B. Ramanathan (MD ACE International, Singapore), Nara Subramaniam, and K. Vijay Kumar (Evolve2Achieve Leadership Training) shared insights on how educational institutions can lead the way in promoting sustainability through curricula and leadership training.

The second panel on Corporate Responsibility and Sustainable Business Models explored the integration of sustainability into corporate strategies. Speakers like Dr. Chinnu Palanivelu, Fazle Alam Khan (Urban Connect Trading LLC), and Shahnaz Ahmed (Springdale School) discussed the challenges and opportunities of balancing profit with purpose, and how businesses can lead by example in promoting ethical governance and sustainability.

The final panel addressed the growing E-Waste Crisis, where global experts, including Nazar Danish  (NascorpsUSA), Shahnoor (Heriot-Watt University, UAE), and Ayesha Tazeen, discussed strategies for responsible disposal and recycling. They explored ways to minimize the environmental impact of e-waste through the promotion of circular economy principles and the leadership role of governments and corporations in managing this critical issue.

A key moment of the event was the Award Ceremony  that recognized and honored the contributions of speakers, sponsors, and volunteers. The Chief Guest, H.E. Laila El Atfani, President & Founder of Business Gate & Woman Business Circle, administered the Sustainability Pledge. In her speech, H.E. El Atfani urged attendees to adopt sustainable practices in their everyday lives and emphasised the collective responsibility to preserve the planet for future generations.

The event concluded with an optimistic note, with participants reaffirming their commitment to sustainable development.
