SRTI Park participates in Hong Kong’s Fourth Summit of Belt and Road Initiative

Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) showcased business opportunities in China. Aisha Al Qubaisi, advisor at the Embassy of the UAE in China, attended the first session of The Sharjah China Innovation Roadshow 2019 in Shenzhen coordinated by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).

The Sharjah China Innovation Roadshow 2019 started by presenting the Park’s investment opportunities to leading investors in Shenzhen concentrating on Science Park’s six focus areas: Renewable Energy, Environmental Technologies, Digitization, Design and Production, Transport and Logistics and Water Technology.

His Excellency Hussain Al Mahmoudi expressed his confidence that the UAE-China visits at the highest levels of leadership will consolidate the strategic partnership between the two countries, especially on the economic level, which will increase the flow of investments in both directions to serve the development requirements and support the interests of the UAE business community and its Chinese counterparts.

Belt and Road Initiative Participation

SRTI Park participated in the 4th Summit of Belt and Road Initiative in Hong Kong in the presence of government delegations from 80 countries.

During his keynote at the event, Al Mahmoudi said: “China is one of the most important trade and economic partners of the United Arab Emirates, and we stress that the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park seeks to contribute effectively in the fields of research, development and knowledge transfer. “

He stressed that establishing a knowledge economy is the top priority for future smart cities.

Investment opportunities

The Sharjah China Innovation Roadshow 2019 was a remarkable success, the sessions witnessed great interaction by investors and entrepreneurs. A number of direct bilateral meetings were held which were attended by the delegation from SRTI Park and investors in the fields of 3D printing, energy, renewable technologies, digital transformation and industrial modernization. The meetings focused on attracting Chinese innovations specializing in high-tech products, using SRTI Park as a test bed for research and development in the Middle East.

There are massive growth opportunities and prospects for investors and companies in Sharjah, due its strategic location linking East and West, and its advanced infrastructure. The emirate’s extensive land, sea and air transport network contribute to the promotion of trade and investment activity in the region, in addition to the business support facilities provided, attracting scientific and research investments from around the globe.

Furthermore, SRTI Park team visited the Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab (SZOIL) to learn more about the innovative projects that are based there. During the meeting, they discussed potential cooperation in the field of digital construction and plans to attract future projects to the UAE. The Park also explored opportunities to establish itself as a platform for GCL, a China-based technology enterprise. The park is keen to attract investments in the fields of solar energy, smart city solutions and emission reduction technology to the MENA region.

During the session of Shenzhen Smart Products Accelerator, SRTI Park met leading companies in the fields of Smart Cities, eCommerce and Internet of Things (IoT). SRTI Park presented its strategy to attract the promising technological industries to its thriving innovation ecosystem. The meeting discussed establishing an innovation and R&D roadmap between Sharjah and Shenzhen.

China-Arab International Technology Transfer Center

SRTI Park has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China-Arab International Technology Transfer Center (CAITTC), the main platform for technology transfer and scientific cooperation between China and Arab countries. The agreement was aimed towards the creation of a center for technology transfer while also helping in the creation of newer partnerships between research institutions, companies and entrepreneurs, and in line with the objectives of the China Belt and Road Initiative
