Award-winning filmmaker and former Jury Head take the helm of the Emirates Film Festival, bringing a bold vision for global collaboration and cinematic excellence.
The Emirates Film Festival (EFF), the UAE’s first independent film festival, has announced a significant milestone with the appointment of award-winning filmmaker and producer Zenofar Fathima as the Director of the 13th Emirates Film Festival.

Having served as the Head of the Jury during the festival’s 12th Edition, her appointment marks the beginning of a new era aimed at elevating the festival’s international profile and strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading destination for independent cinema.

Founded in 2013, the Emirates Film Festival has become a respected platform dedicated to celebrating creativity, discovering emerging talent, and promoting cultural exchange through film. It brings together filmmakers, producers, actors, students, and industry professionals from around the world.

Zenofar Fathima is the Founder and CEO of Zen Film Productions. Beginning her career in journalism before transitioning into filmmaking, she has written, directed, and produced more than 20 original films and digital productions, spanning psychological thrillers, horror, drama, documentaries, and social awareness campaigns covering cyber safety, domestic violence, mental health, women’s empowerment, family values, and social responsibility.
Her productions have received recognition at international film festivals with honours including Best Film, Best Director, Best Producer, Best Screenplay, and Jury Awards. Among her notable works is Ayah – The Power of Dua, produced in collaboration with Firdaus Studio by Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman at Expo City Dubai.
She is also the creator of The Reel Files, which evolved into an OTT anthology series, alongside acclaimed productions such as Specter: Black Out.
Beyond filmmaking, Zenofar actively mentors emerging talent through workshops, collaborations, and industry initiatives. As Director of the 13th Emirates Film Festival, her vision is to expand international partnerships, introduce educational initiatives, support independent filmmakers, and position the festival among the region’s leading platforms for cinematic excellence.
